Dean Oliver on Practicing ‘The Eclipse’, Measuring Motivation, Next NBA Trend

Had the pleasure of having a rather long chat with the father of basketball analytics Dean Oliver.

We talked about Kristaps Porzingis being open to analytics during Dean’s time with the Washington Wizards, the Wizards practicing ‘The Eclipse’ or the Luke Kornet Kontest, nuances of the post-up game and the irony of Kristaps thriving at it after Rick Carlisle‘s infamous presser.

Interviewing @DeanO_Lytics meant I just had to ask about Porzingis using the Kornet Kontest with the Wizards.

They practiced it! And it might be true that it works!

Also spent time on James Harden and Luka Doncic-led heliocentric offense, the possibilities of measuring the motivation after a token touch for a low usage player and offensive rebounding possibly being the next trend in NBA (with some shout outs to the Seattle SuperSonics of Danny Fortson and Reggie Evans) .
